Making Memories
- If you’re new to scrapbooking, check out a class or workshop in your area. Or pick up a book or magazine from your local library. There are a variety of resources available to help everyone – from beginner to diehard “scrapper.” Check out the National Scrapbooking Association for more resources.
- Stock up on Christmas-themed supplies, such as papers and stickers. An easy way is to purchase a themed kit from the gift shop of your Christmas Tree retailer or Choose & Cut farm. Additional supplies are available at scrapbooking and craft supply stores.
- Don’t just take a photo of your finished tree. Taking photos of the entire process – from the visit to your Choose & Cut farm or tree retailer to the final finishing star on top – helps to create a better memory of the experience (and a more creative scrapbook.)
- Have your children write a few sentences explaining why their tree is the “perfect tree.” These comments can create unique journaling on your scrapbook pages that is fun to read for years to come. Younger children can draw their own renditions of the tree for inclusion.
- Host a scrapbooking party after Christmas is over. It’s a great way to gather friends and family after the stress of the holidays has passed – and ensure that your great photos make it into the scrapbook. It also allows you to swap ideas and supplies.
- Before recycling your Christmas Tree, take a small clipping off the end of a branch to store in a scrapbook-friendly pouch. This can be a tradition from year to year to remember your Real Trees.
- For the budding scrapbooker in your family, scrapbook tools, such as decorative scissors or stickers, and extra camera batteries make great stocking stuffers.
- Make copies of your children’s (or your own) wish lists and letters to Santa. These can be a fun way to document how their interests have changed over time and what was important to them.
- Have someone on your list that’s impossible to shop for? Or just looking for a creative gift this year? Create a scrapbook for a friend or loved one. Whether you capture 25 years of wedded bliss or document the first year in your child’s life for his grandparents – it’s a gift they will cherish for years to come.
- Make scrapbooking a family affair. Give young children disposable cameras and mini-albums to capture their memories of the holidays. Or create a larger album that family members can work on together. Artistic perfection is not the goal – focus on capturing your holiday memories and enjoying the tradition.
