WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN
- These figures are from the annual consumer tracking poll commissioned by NCTA and conducted by Harris Interactive.
- Note: Mean dollars spent is NOT a measurement of the average price/cost of trees. It is only a measurement of what consumers taking the poll spent on the trees they purchased.
- We do not have an effective way of measuring the average retail price of trees.

WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN
- As seen here, location of Real Tree purchases can vary from year to year.
- Because there are so many different types of businesses selling trees, it's difficult to pinpoint any specific trend.
- Anecdotally, NCTA has heard of an increase in Internet/online purchases -- but these figures are still below the error range of 3.1% so they don't appear in the numbers.
WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN
- Consumers spend almost twice as much on Real Christmas Trees grown on farms through the U.S. and Canada than they do on new artificial Christmas trees, most of which are produced in Chinese factories.
- The economy seems to have little effect on the tradition of buying and displaying a farm-grown Christmas Tree.
- Polling data shows that young adults display a farm-grown Christmas Tree at a higher rate than the overall population. This would indicate an increase in the number of Real Trees purchased each year.
- It is estimated that Christmas tree farms in North America planted about 40 million new tree seedlings in the winter/spring of 2011 to replace harvested crops and meet future increased demand.
